The WBA has been operating for just over three months. While it's not the end of an entire year for WBA, it is the end of 2024 and the end of a year is time for reflection and forward thinking. Let us review.
It took the Founders just over a year to get the WBA up and running. It opened with four solid presentation offerings: Button Talk, Creative Expressions, Button Runway, and a monthly program. Two Creative Workshops were added later. We've already seen beautiful creative artwork from our members; painted big holed china buttons and button mosaics. We visited a shoe factory in Toronto, Canada, a clothing store in Vermont, and we chatted with the hosts of Hot Buttons. We took a trip around the world with Beth Schaut and learned about buttons made in other countries. Meg Kerr and Sue Scott of Australia told us about peacocks on buttons and we shared our personal favorites in Button Talk. We spent time with Chris Shreve in her studio and saw what it takes to make lampwork buttons. In these three short months almost 300 people have joined WBA. We've members from the UK, Australia, Canada, France, and Ireland and we are continually reaching out to include more. So where do we go from here? We do more. More learning. More fun. More talk. More special events like the Button Games coming in February, and we do it all with your participation and support. HERE'S SOMETHING IMPORTANT The website is the heart of WBA and if you haven't explored it or visited it frequently, you are not getting full use of your membership. It is updated regularly. This is where you'll find upcoming events listed, registration links, study sheets, and more. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW IS ON THE WEBSITE. HERE'S WHAT'S NEW Chris Shreve, WBA Secretary and Founder, resigned her position earlier this month to tend to her family. Thank you for your work in bringing this organization to fruition, Chris. Don't be a stranger. I'm so excited about this next offering I can't wait any longer to tell you. Lynn Keller is going to lead a new study group for collectors of five years or less, the New Collectors Corner. The group will have its first meeting in February. Stay tuned for more information. As we move into 2025 and you make your New Year's resolutions, make one to become more involved in this wonderful hobby with WBA. Tell your friends. Share our Facebook posts. Reach out and tell us what you hope to see from WBA in the coming year. On behalf of the Directors and staff of WBA, let me wish you a Happy New Year. Be safe and we'll see you in 2025.
